The mission of GimpDome Online Communities is to provide all digital designers with a friendly, active community dedicated to the use of Open Source software. We empower these designers to utilize their skills for professional or personal ventures, as we strive to provide the best assistance and encouragement possible.

Through an active forum, GimpDome's goal is to always offer help and assistance to those who ask for it. A variety of site-sponsored weekly challenges through a wide range of Open Source programs provide our members the opportunity to sharpen their skills further. Our desire is that people, the world over, will discover that there is no need to buy expensive programs to create works of art.

The tutorial and resource sections of GimpDome are extensive. Covering several major programs as well as few that are lesser-known, we offer step-by-step detailed processes to aid in the us of these programs. This will increase the knowledge base and sharpen the tools of our member's skills while they share in their growth. Often files are shared so others can see layer by layer how the work was created. With encouragement through contests, tuts, helpful staff and members, we will continue to help others grow in their talents while having fun.

Submitting Artwork

Hey GimpDomers!

I know it's been awhile since the last journal, and I apologize for that. Life has been pretty hectic, but I am hoping to be able to devote more time to the Dome - both here and on our forums - very soon.

I just wanted to remind you all of our guidelines for submitting artwork. 2 of the biggest points I want to touch on are:
1. Please keep all artwork submitted "family friendly." This means nothing more than "PG-13." If I find artwork that is not "family friendly" I will be removing it from our gallery - NO EXCEPTIONS!
2. Please select the correct gallery for your artwork. A lot of submissions are ending up i n the "3D" folder that should not be. I know the 3D Folder is the default when you submit your artwork. You need to choose the correct folder from the drop down menu. I have moved all non-3D artwork to their correct folders today. If you don't like the folder I selected, you can move it. If you feel there is not an appropriate folder for your artwork, let an admin know and we will add new folders! If you are a repeat offender, meaning you consistently are too lazy to select the correct folder and let all your artwork dump into the 3D folder, I will just start removing the offending pieces. If you feel your artwork has been moved or removed in error, please let an admin know.

Now that we are a Group, you can submit your artwork without fear of losing those

s go directly to you! Clicking a deviation will take you to the artist's page.

Golden Rule:
All work or links to work (your own or some one elses) posted at the dome must be created in, or at least 90% of the work must be done in, an open source or freeware program. The ONLY exception to this rule is giving credit to stock used in your artwork.

Definitions of both softwares can be read here.
Open Source Software

This does not apply to companies that release a ver of their software that is free, but limited in the usage or has a time period of usage i.e. Trialware. If the company or programmer does not have their software listed on their website or a distribution site as "Freeware" or "Open Source" than it is not allowed at the Dome.

We here at the dome operate on the honor system. Please do not abuse that!

Other Rules to live by while you are here!
1. No swearing
2. No flaming, screaming (typing in all caps), spamming or flooding
3. Do not harass each other:
3a. Harassment includes making rude or derogatory comments about each others work!
3b. Posting rude or derogatory comments about another member!
3c. Sending inappropriate PM's to other members
4. If you don't like the user or their work, just don't look! No need to be a hater!
5. Criticism is welcome on all works as long as it is constructive. Try to keep it positive!
6. No posting anti-semitic or racially derogatory material
7. No posting sexually explicit, pornographic or anything with grotesque nudity.
7a. This will result in a one warning. If you do it again you will be removed from the Group - no questions asked!

The one major exception to this rule is Child Porn or posting images of minors nude. If you post it you will be removed from the Group immediately and permenantly! No questions asked and all post containing the offensive material will be logged, reported, then deleted from the Group.

8. Do to the fact that the Graphics Community in whole has a very wide age range, keep it PG 13. If you have any questions about the content of your submissions please ask before you post. You can PM an Admin or a Senior Moderator and ask them if the content is acceptable.
9. No ripping (stealing others work and posting it as your own) This will result in an immediate removal from the Group - no questions asked!
11. Show respect to each other, not just the Admins & Mods.
12. No posting links or files containing WAREZ information ie. free serials, cracks, downloads or hacks to licensed software. Open source, Shareware, or Freeware is fine to link to.

In other words, kids... play nice and have fun!
